“Skull & Roses”
“Skull & Roses” Woodblock Double Print; Ink and Acrylic; 10in x 14in; (2002). Artist Private Collection
"Skull and Roses" explores the iconic Grateful Dead imagery through an experimental printmaking process. Beginning with a hand-carved woodblock, Fall layered traditional printing techniques with an adventurous wet-paint pressing that created unexpected textures when the paper began to deteriorate. This happy accident enhanced the piece's organic quality, while the vibrant greens and luminous yellows radiating behind the stark white skull celebrate both the vitality of life and the natural transition of death.
